Just
a reminder that RABA will be doing another joint ride with Northern Neck Cycling next Sunday (August 31). The complete ride description from the
Pedaler is re-printed below.
This
is going to be a very social ride with a lunch stop, a tour of Historic Christ
Church and a post-ride get together hosted by Steve Reiss with Northern Neck
cycling. Everyone who rides is invited.
We
need to get a head count for the lunch, the tour and the post ride get
together. If you are planning on riding, please email me (hugh at theaarons.com)
and let me know whether you plan to participate in:
1.
The lunch
2.
The tour of Historic Christ Church
3.
The post ride get-together at Steve's place.
If you
are participating in the tour, please remember to bring the $5 contribution
(i.e., fee) to Historic Christ Church. Also, bring plenty of water.
Once we hit Windmill Point Road, there are no stores until we get to Kilmarnock at about mile 23.
I
hope you can join us.

Description: Join Hugh, Steve, Jack, Bob
and Eric on another joint ride with Northern Neck Cycling, (the bike club on
Virginia's Northern Neck). The route starts at the Steamboat Era Museum
in Irvington, travels to Windmill Point to check out the progress on the new
Windmill Point Resort and then travels around Fleets Bay into downtown
Kilmarnock. All pace groups will meet up in Kilmarnock for lunch on the
patio at Savannah Joes (formerly Smokin Joes). After lunch the route
travels to the historic village of Weems where Carters Creek joins the Rappahannock River. From Weems, the route travels back to Irvington with
a stop along the way to visit the beautiful grounds and buildings of Christ
Church. Christ Church was completed in 1735 and is considered to be the
best preserved and most finely crafted of colonial Virginia's Anglican parish
churches (www.christchurch17 35.org). There is a $5
"contribution" for the Christ Church tour. Upon return to
Irvington, Steve Reiss, our host from Northern Neck Cycling, has invited all
riders back to his house for a very informal libation and snack
gathering. Steve's address is 729 Chesapeake Drive in Irvington, which is
the street on the other side of Commons area from the Steamboat Museum. Follow
Chesapeake Drive to the end of the street. Cars can park in the
cul-de-sac. Bicycles should come down the driveway to the house. If you are planning on joining us on this ride, please
email or call Hugh no later than noon on Thursday, August 28 so that he can
give an accurate head count to the restaurant, Christ Church and Steve.
Directions: Irvington is about 1 hour and 15 minutes from the Richmond
Airport so make sure you get an early start, especially if you are coming from
the West End or the Southside. To reach Irvington, take Interstate 64 East to exit 220 for Route 33 East to West Point. Continue 17 miles past West
Point to a stoplight at the crest of a hill in Glenns and turn left onto Route
33/US 17 North. Stay on Route 33/US 17 North for 2 miles and bear right
at the Hardees into Saluda. At the traffic light at the courthouse in
Saluda, turn right onto Route 33 and proceed 6.8 miles to the stoplight at the
Route 3 intersection. Turn left onto Route 3 West and continue for 7.4 miles
over the Rappahannock River (on the Norris Bridge) into White Stone. Turn
left at the first traffic signal in White Stone onto Route 200 North and drive
2 miles__._,_.___
