To Northern Neck Cycling members:
This is from RoadBiker newsletter:
---The fifth annual Ride of Silence, a global network of group rides to honor cyclists injured or killed by motorists, will take place on May 16 at 7 p.m. (or May 19 at 10 a.m. in the southern hemisphere). The Ride of Silence was created in Dallas to honor endurance cyclist Larry Schwartz, who was killed by the driver of a school bus in 2003. More than a thousand cyclists showed up for a slow, silent 12-mile procession. The next year, riders in about 50 North American cities participated. In 2006 there were rides in more than 250 locations worldwide. If no ride is in your area, it's easy to organize one and add it to the list at http://www.rideofsilence.org/main.php
Since we had a cyclist killed last year, it seems appropriate for us to undertake a Ride of Silence in memory of that cyclist, Carter LaPrade of Weems.
Dallas had more than a thousand participants for the inaugural Sound of Silence ride; if we can get at least a dozen commitments we'll go forward with a local Ride of Silence, as described below. We've cleared this with Mrs. LaPrade. Jeff Warren will do the publicity.
